About the destination

Transfer to Atakent

An Atakent transfer request often reaches us under a different name. Some guests write Atakent, others Susanoglu, and they mean the same place: a beach town in the Silifke district of Mersin, known for its broad sandy shore. Susanoglu is the quarter on the eastern side of town, Kapızlı the one on the west. Below we explain what Atakent is like, who spends the summer here and where our private transfers take you from it.

One Town, Two Names

Atakent was formed when several villages merged, and the older names never went away. You will see them on road signs, on maps and in holiday-flat listings. That has a practical side for transport. When you book, add the quarter as well as the town name so it is clear which side of town you are staying on: Susanoglu or Kapızlı.

Most of the town is made up of summer homes: lanes running down to the sea, detached houses with gardens, low apartment blocks. Winters are quiet. Come June the shutters go up, washing lines appear on balconies and the beach fills.

The Beach Is the Reason

Sand is what Atakent has going for it. The wide beach meets shallow water that deepens slowly, which is why families with small children return every summer. Travellers who find Kizkalesi too busy often settle here for a more local feel.

  • Families who move into their summer home as soon as school breaks up
  • Residents of Mersin and Adana coming down for the weekend
  • Retired couples hosting grandchildren for the season
  • Visitors who want a calm base for the ancient sites around Narlıkuyu and Silifke
  • Staff working at the Akkuyu end of the coast who spend days off by the sea
  • Extended families gathering during public holidays

A couple travels comfortably in a Business Sedan or Premium Sedan. A family arriving with beach chairs, an umbrella and a pushchair is better off in a VIP Vito. For holiday reunions the eight-seat Mercedes Vito or the fifteen-seat Mercedes Sprinter keeps everyone together.

Halfway Between Silifke and Narlıkuyu

Atakent sits neatly between two worthwhile stops. A short drive east brings you to Narlıkuyu and the Heaven and Hell sinkholes, vast openings in the limestone. To the west is Silifke, with its market, hilltop castle and the Göksu river, and just beyond it the port of Taşucu. The road climbing north from Silifke into the highlands leads to the ruins at Uzuncaburç.

Owners usually do these outings when guests visit. Booking a point-to-point transfer and fixing the return time in advance saves an afternoon of phoning around for a taxi.

Where We Drive From Atakent

The airport is the most common destination. We also take guests to central Mersin for hospital visits and shopping, to Adana to see family, and to Taşucu, Silifke or Akkuyu. Pickup is at your front door or complex gate. The arrival side, from landing to the drive along the coast, is covered on our page about the private transfer from the airport to Atakent.

Prices are per vehicle, not per person. Choose Atakent in the booking form, enter your date and compare the vehicle classes. The Add return option lets you book both directions together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Atakent and Susanoglu the same place?

Yes, they refer to the same town. Atakent is a seaside town in the Silifke district of Mersin province. Susanoglu is its eastern quarter and Kapızlı its western quarter, and locals use the names interchangeably. Include the quarter and your full address in the booking so the pickup and drop-off point is clear.

Can we visit the Heaven and Hell sinkholes from Atakent?

Yes. Book a point-to-point transfer from Atakent east to the Heaven and Hell sinkholes above Narlıkuyu. If you set the return time with the Add return option in the same booking, the car home is already arranged when you finish your visit. Prices for each vehicle class appear in the booking form.

Do you drive to Taşucu port?

Yes, we run door-to-door transfers from Atakent to Taşucu. If you plan to take the ferry to Northern Cyprus, check the current sailing status and times with the ferry operator before you travel, then choose your pickup time to match. If plans change, send a change request through the My Reservation page.

Which vehicle suits a family with beach gear?

A family of five or six with suitcases, an umbrella and a pushchair fits comfortably in a VIP Vito. Larger groups usually go for the eight-seat Mercedes Vito. Child seats can be added to the booking as an extra. Since the price is per vehicle, sharing one car keeps the cost per person down.
