Tatlarin, the Quiet Underground City
Cappadocia's famous underground cities fill up with tour coaches. Tatlarin rarely does. It is carved into a hill locals call “Kale”, the castle, in the small town of Tatlarin north of Acigol.
The known parts include a burial chamber, kitchen and storage rooms, a prison cell, two churches, a well and a stable, which is why it is thought to have served as a garrison or a monastery. Opening hours change with the season, so check before you go.
