Kayseri Yeşilhisar Transfer
Yeşilhisar transfer: door-to-door private cars to the rock churches of Soğanlı, the Sultan Marshes and hotels across Cappadocia.
Transfer to Kayseri Yeşilhisar
A Yeşilhisar transfer is usually booked by travellers looking for a quieter side of Cappadocia. This district in the south-west of Kayseri province combines the rock-cut churches of the Soğanlı Valley with the Sultan Marshes, a wetland well known to birdwatchers. It sits away from the busy tour stops and lives at its own pace. Here is how to reach Yeşilhisar, what is around it and where our private transfers go from here.
The Quiet Southern Edge of Cappadocia
Cappadocia makes most people think of balloons and crowded valleys. Yeşilhisar lies at the southern edge of the same volcanic landscape, on its less visited side. In the Soğanlı Valley, which belongs to the district, rock-cut churches and caves stand among village houses that are still lived in. History here is not behind museum glass. It is next to someone's garden wall.
The valley lies along the road connecting Niğde and Kayseri, so it makes an easy detour for anyone travelling between the two cities.
The Rock Churches of Soğanlı
Soğanlı holds dozens of rock churches and caves, several of them open to visitors. The best known are Karabaş, Yılanlı, Kubbeli and the Church of Saint Barbara, also called Tahtalı. Sadly, the domed Kubbeli church was badly damaged by treasure hunters and some of its frescoes were defaced. Local authorities have been working on footpaths and restoration in recent years.
Exploring the valley means walking. Bring comfortable shoes, a hat and water. Late afternoon light warms the rock faces, and photographers time their visits for it.
The Sultan Marshes and Bird Seasons
South-east of Yeşilhisar lies Sultan Sazlığı, the Sultan Marshes, one of Turkey's key birdwatching sites with more than two hundred and fifty recorded species. Changes in irrigation have pushed the wetland towards drying out, so water levels vary from year to year. Ask about current conditions before you go.
