Where the Euphrates Meets the Merzimen
Rumkale stands within Yavuzeli's boundaries, at the point where the Merzimen stream joins the Euphrates, on a rocky promontory reaching into the water. Still green water lies at the foot of its walls. You cannot drive up to it. Visitors arrive by boat.
Boats leave from two sides. One is the landing at Kasaba village on the Yavuzeli side, the other is Halfeti on the far bank, in Şanlıurfa province. Many visitors come in from one side and leave from the other, or combine the castle with a boat tour. Boat times can change with the season, so check with local operators before you set off.
Yavuzeli Beyond the Castle
The district centre is a typical small Antep town. Stone houses, shops that open early, streets that empty in the midday heat. Around it stretch pistachio orchards and vineyards. At harvest time in late summer, the village roads get busy.
Closer to the Euphrates the ground gets harder and the valleys deeper. The villages nearer the river now see a steady stream of day-trippers. At weekends, families drive out from Gaziantep.

Can you collect me from the landing after my Rumkale visit?

Can I go in via Halfeti and come back via Yavuzeli?
Many people planning a Rumkale visit do exactly that. Book separate point-to-point transfers to Halfeti and to the Kasaba village landing, and you can arrive on one side and leave from the other. You will need to confirm the boat crossing with local operators yourself; the car side is arranged through the booking form.
