A Çukurova Airport to Alahan Monastery transfer is a coastal drive followed by a mountain drive. The airport is near Tarsus. Alahan lies west of Mersin, past Silifke, then north up the Göksu valley and beyond Mut. This page covers what happens after you land, what the road is like, and how to combine the trip with an overnight stay.

Starting at Arrivals

We track the flight number in your booking from the moment you enter it. If your plane lands late, the pickup time adjusts. After baggage claim, look for your driver at the arrivals exit holding a sign with your name.

There is a long road and an archaeological site at the end of it. Keep what you need for the visit, comfortable shoes, a hat and water, in your hand luggage. The suitcase can stay in the boot.

Coast, Then Valley

The first part follows the Mediterranean. Past Mersin the road turns west, and the greenhouses of Erdemli, Kizkalesi's castle in the sea and a coastline dotted with ruins slide past the window. At Silifke you turn north.

The second part is the Göksu valley. On the Silifke–Mut road the river comes and goes from view, and you may spot the memorial marking where Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa drowned in the Göksu. The valley narrows, the cliffs rise and the bends tighten. Past Mut the road climbs again and Alahan appears on the slope above the river. Our drivers take this section steadily. The bends come before the view.

Splitting a Long Day

You can head to the monastery straight after landing. For most passengers, though, splitting the journey works better. A few options:

  • Go straight from the airport to a hotel in Silifke or Mut and visit the monastery the next day
  • Stay in Kizkalesi and visit Alahan as a day trip with a separate transfer
  • On an early flight, stop at the monastery and continue to Mut or Silifke for the night
  • If you are travelling on towards Karaman, make Alahan the first stop on the way

Whichever you choose, check the site's opening hours before you go.

Choosing a Car and Planning the Return

A couple will be comfortable in a Business Sedan or Premium Sedan, and those who want more room on a long drive choose the Comfort Class. Families or friends up to six fit a VIP Vito, and up to eight a Mercedes Vito. Culture tour groups can take a Mercedes Sprinter or the seven-seat Ultra VIP Sprinter. Prices are per vehicle and the booking form shows every class side by side.

Plan your return together with the outward trip. Using Add return in the booking form, you set the date and pickup time in the same reservation. For more about the monastery, visiting tips and onward connections, see our Alahan Monastery page. To start, choose Çukurova Airport as pickup, Alahan Monastery as drop-off and enter your flight number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which way does the drive to Alahan go?

The route heads west through Mersin and along the coast past Erdemli and Kizkalesi to Silifke. From Silifke it turns north up the Göksu valley to Mut. Alahan Monastery is on the road from Mut to Karaman, on a slope above the valley. The valley section is winding and calls for careful driving.

Can I see the monastery and reach my hotel on the same day?

Yes. Travel from the airport to Alahan, then book a separate point-to-point transfer from the monastery to your hotel in Mut, Silifke or Kizkalesi. Bear in mind that after a long flight this makes for a tiring day. It works best with flights that land early.

How does the airport meeting work?

Your driver waits at the arrivals exit of Çukurova Airport with a sign showing your name. We track your flight number, so if your plane is delayed the pickup time is adjusted to the actual landing. If your flight details change, send a change request through the My Reservation page.

Which vehicle is most comfortable on this long route?

For one or two passengers, the Comfort Class gives extra legroom on a long drive. Families and small groups suit a VIP Vito, and those wanting a roomier cabin can choose the Ultra VIP Vito. Large culture tour groups usually pick the Mercedes Sprinter. The booking form shows the price of every class per vehicle.
