A Çukurova Airport to Kapikaya Canyon / Varda Viaduct transfer usually answers one question: I have one free day near Adana, what can I do outdoors? The airport sits on the Tarsus side; Karaisalı lies north-west of Adana, in the foothills of the Taurus. You can land, load your bags and head for the canyon without losing time at a city hotel. Here is how to build that day.

Straight From the Plane to the Trail

We track your flight number, so a late landing moves the pickup time with it. At the arrivals exit, your driver holds a sign with your name. Planning to go straight into nature? Pick an early flight. You will want daylight for the canyon.

Think about your luggage before you book. While you walk, the car does not sit and wait with your cases; it drops you and comes back at your return time. For most travellers, dropping bags at the hotel and doing the trip the next day is simply easier.

From the Plain Into the Karaisalı Hills

The first part of the drive uses the motorway from Tarsus toward Adana. Then we leave it and head north-west toward Karaisalı. The flat fields of Çukurova give way to hills and slopes dotted with olive and pine. After Karaisalı the roads narrow, the bends tighten and you are on village lanes.

That last stretch calls for care in larger vehicles. On summer weekends, picnickers' cars line the verges. Come on a weekday and both the road and the canyon are calmer.

A Day Plan That Works

The canyon and the viaduct are close, but they are two separate stops. A plan many of our passengers follow:

  • Arrive at the canyon in the cool of the morning and start walking
  • Lunch break at the picnic area at the northern end
  • Afternoon at the Varda Viaduct for photos
  • Pickup toward sunset, back to the airport or your hotel
  • Allow extra time if the group walks at different speeds
  • Save the bridge for last if you want golden-hour light

You can book the hop between canyon and bridge, and the return, as separate point-to-point transfers. On the main booking, the Add return option puts the trip back on the same reservation. Walking times vary, so keep the return time generous.

What to Pack and Which Car to Pick

Closed shoes with grip, water, a hat and, in summer, sunscreen. The canyon is cool inside, but the approach can be hot. Families with small children should add a child seat as an extra; it matters on the winding roads past Karaisalı.

Two people travel well in a Business Sedan or Premium Sedan. Families with hiking gear tend to pick a VIP Vito, and walking clubs a Mercedes Sprinter. Prices are per vehicle. For more about the canyon and the bridge themselves, see our Kapikaya Canyon and Varda Viaduct page. To book, choose Çukurova Airport as pickup and this location as drop-off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it make sense to go straight from the airport to the canyon?

It works if you land early in the morning and travel light. The walk needs daylight, so with an afternoon arrival we suggest going to your hotel first and doing the trip the next day. If you have large suitcases, dropping them at the hotel before the outing makes the whole day easier.

Will the car wait for us while we walk?

For a day out, plan the outbound and return as separate point-to-point transfers. The car drops you at the canyon and picks you up again at the return time you set. Add the return with the Add return option in the booking form, and if you need to change the time, send a request from the My Reservation page.

Are the Karaisalı roads suitable for larger vehicles?

The road is comfortable as far as Karaisalı. After that, village lanes narrow and bends increase, so larger vehicles such as the Mercedes Sprinter drive carefully. On summer weekends, picnickers' cars can line the verges. Visiting on a weekday usually means a quieter road and a quieter canyon.

When is the best time of year to go?

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for walking. In summer the canyon is cool inside, but the approach can be very hot around midday, so start early. In winter or after heavy rain, water levels and trail conditions can change, so check the current situation before you set off.
